“We are delighted that the National Academy of Engineering has recognized our Georgia Tech faculty members for their outstanding contributions to engineering and as leaders in their fields. Their induction is a testament to the quality of our faculty members and their contributions to the engineering profession."

Ahuja's colleagues were quick to follow suit.

"As a Regents Professor in our school and as a Regents Researcher for GTRI, Krish is known worldwide for his seminal contributions in aeroacoustics," said William R. T. Oakes School Chair Mark F. Costello. "We are fortunate and proud to have such a great colleague."

Fellow NAE member Prof. Tim Lieuwen echoed Costello.

"In addition to making significant contributions to reducing jet noise and aeroacoustics, Krish is a wonderful colleague who cares deeply about Georgia Tech and the AE department," he said.

Former AE School chair Vigor Yang said Ahuja's latest honor brought pride to his colleagues.

"In Krish, we have had someone of great intellectual stature, and a truly rigorous researcher," he said. "His reputation elevates the work of all of his colleagues."

In naming Ahuja to the honor, the NAE praised him for "his work in the development of quieter aerosystems and contributions to aeroacoustics research, literature, and education."

Ahuja is the fourth AE professor in five years to be named to the NAE. Among the most recent inductees are Prof. Robert Braun (2014), Prof. Vigor Yang (2015), and Prof. Tim Lieuwen (2018). Other NAE members from the Daniel Guggenheim School include Dr. Ben T. Zinn, Dr. Edward Price, and former chairs Dr. Robert Loewy and Dr. Don Giddens

Ahuja is a Regents Professor in the Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering, and a Regents Researcher at the Georgia Tech Research Institute, where he is revered for his work in aircraft noise, acoustics facilities design, flow control, state-of-the-art instrumentation and advanced signal processing. He is a world-renowned expert  and author on a variety of subjects including acoustic shielding, fan noise, active flow control, flow/acoustic interactions, jet noise, cavity noise, automobile noise, sonic boom research, psychoacoustics, high-temperature fiber optics strain gauges, acoustic transducers, active noise control, tilt rotor noise, source separation, acoustic fatigue, duct acoustics, computational aeroacoustics, innovative flow visualization techniques, and tornado signatures.

Election to the National Academy of Engineering is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.  Academy membership honors those who have made outstanding contributions to "engineering research, practice, or education, including, where appropriate, significant contributions to the engineering literature" and to "the pioneering of new and developing fields of technology, making major advancements in traditional fields of engineering, or developing/implementing innovative approaches to engineering education."
