Professor E. Glenn Lightsey has been selected as the Daniel Guggenheim School's David Lewis Professor of Space Systems Technology.

A renowned expert in the field of space navigation and technology, Lightsey currently heads up the AE School's Space Systems Design Lab (SSDL) and serves as the associate director of Georgia Tech's Center for Space Technology And Research (C-STAR).

As a researcher and a professor, Lightsey has long championed the burgeoning field of small satellites, of which he has personally overseen the launch of more than a dozen. His research interests include guidance, navigation, and control systems; attitude determination and control; formation flying, satellite swarms, and satellite networks; cooperative control; proximity operations and unmanned spacecraft rendezvous; space based Global Positioning System receivers; radionavigation; visual navigation; propulsion; satellite operations; and space systems engineering.

"Glenn's contributions to space technology have inspired the aerospace engineering community for decades," said William R. T. Oakes School Chair Mark F. Costello.

"Since joining the AE School at Georgia Tech, he's energetically pursued smart, productive collaborations  that are defining the future of space exploration. We are all looking forward to what he comes up with next."
