Daniel Guggenheim School of Aerospace Engineering professor Marilyn J. Smith has been elected to the status of Fellow by the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS). The director of Georgia Tech's Vertical Lift Research Center of Excellence (VLRCOE), Smith was recognized by the Society for her technical research and leadership in the field of computational aerodynamics and aeroelasticity.

Her elevation to the status of Fellow was applauded by her colleagues.

 "Dr. Smith is tireless in her research, teaching, and mentorship of next generation engineers," said William R. T. Oakes School Chair Mark Costello. "I'm thrilled about this appointment for such a deserving scholar."

Established in 1866, the RAeS is the oldest aeronautical society in the world, and it seeks to promote the development of high professional standards and a central forum for sharing knowledge in the field of aeronautics.
