Announcement of Hsu's appointment came the last week of November, concluding a months-long recruitment process for the South Carolina liberal arts university. As a doctoral student at the AE School, Hsu produced "Theoretical and Numerical Studies of a Vortex-airfoil Interaction Problem," his dissertation, which was ultimately approved by a committee that included our very own Regents Professor Lakshmi Sankar.

A native of China, Hsu completed his undergraduate degree at Tsinghua University before earning both his master's and doctoral degrees in aerospace engineering from Georgia Tech in 1986. After leaving Tech, Hsu worked at Sverdrup Technology (a NASA contractor) and Rolls-Royce North America in Indianapolis before embarking on an academic career that included teaching and leadership positions at San Jose State University, Wright State University, the University of Miami and, most recently, the University of Toledo.

In addition to academic pursuits, Hsu has remained actively engaged in the community - serving on the Board of Governors for Rocket Innovation, the Leadership Council of CalCharge, the Board of Governors of Edison Materials Technology Center, the Board of Governors of the University Clean Energy Alliance of Ohio, and on the Indiana Bioproduct Commission.
